Study Title
Civic Learning Transfer and Post-Event Engagement: A Case Study of the Civics Matters Alumni Network
Introduction and Consent Language
You are invited to participate in a research study about how students continue civic learning after participating in Civics Matters programs. This study includes a survey and offers an optional follow-up interview if you choose to participate. The questions focus on your experiences after participating in the Civics Matters Summit, the Washington, D.C. Trip, or both, as well as your interaction with the Civics Matters Alumni Network.
Your participation is voluntary. You may skip any question, choose not to participate in the interview, or stop at any time. Your responses will be kept confidential and will not affect your participation in Civics Matters programs.
By continuing, you indicate that you assent to participate in this study. Access to this study is limited to students whose parent or guardian has provided consent.
Why You Are Being Asked to Participate
You are being invited to take part in a research study because you participated in the Civics Matters Summit, the Washington, D.C. Trip, or both.
What This Study Is About
This study is about what happens after your Civics Matters experience. It asks how you think about what you learned and what you have done since participating, including how the Alumni Network may have supported you.
What You Will Do
If you choose to participate, you will:
- Complete an online survey
- Answer questions about your experiences after participating in Civics Matters
- Spend about 10–15 minutes on the survey
At the end of the survey, you will have the option to volunteer for a follow-up interview. If you choose to participate in an interview:
- You will be asked additional questions about your experiences
- The interview will take approximately 45–60 minutes
- The interview will be conducted virtually
Participation in the interview is completely optional and not required to complete the survey. If you choose to participate in an interview, the interview will be audio recorded to ensure accuracy. The recording will be transcribed for analysis. Recordings and transcripts will be stored securely and only accessible to the research team.
Voluntary Participation
You do not have to participate.

Confidentiality
- Your responses will be kept confidential.
- Your answers will not be shared with Civics Matters staff in a way that identifies you.
- If you volunteer for an interview, your contact information will be kept separate from your survey responses.
